Job summary

Murray Resources - Best Staffing Agency partners with an upstream oil & gas firm in Houston to hire a Payroll & Billing Specialist. This role supports payroll and accounting in a small-to-mid-sized environment, handling confidential data with discretion and cross-department collaboration.

The ideal candidate will process payroll, manage client invoicing, and ensure timely, accurate payments while complying with internal controls and documentation across payroll, billing, and related systems.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of payroll processing and/or client billing experience.
• Experience handling confidential employee information and financial records.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills and comfort with payroll, HR, and accounting systems.
• Associate or bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, HR, or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Process payroll accurately and on schedule, including earnings, deductions, PTO, bonus, commission, and other pay-related items.
• Maintain employee payroll records, tax withholding information, direct deposit details, benefit deductions, garnishments, and other payroll data.
• Coordinate with Payroll and Benefits Manager on hires, terminations, status changes, wage changes, leave matters, and payroll questions.
• Review payroll inputs for completeness and accuracy and assist with reconciliations.
• Support payroll compliance activities, record retention, and year-end payroll reporting.
• Respond confidentially to payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies.
• Prepare and distribute client invoices, review contracts/pricing, and verify details before invoicing.
• Monitor invoice status, resolve billing discrepancies, and coordinate with cross-functional teams.
• Perform other accounting, administrative, or payroll duties as needed.
