Job summary

Austin Community College is seeking a Specialist, Payroll to manage payroll and retirement-related activities for monthly, semi-monthly, and off-cycle payrolls. The role includes account reconciliations, third-party payments, and responding to customer inquiries.

The position supports the Business Services Office in becoming a Center of Excellence, ensuring accurate payroll processing and compliant reporting for internal partners and external agencies.

Qualifications

• Two years of payroll-related work experience.
• High school diploma or educational equivalent.
• Payroll processing and editing procedures, principles, and practices.
• Federal and state regulations, including taxing and other related payroll rules.
• Customer service principles and practices.
• Editing and proofreading techniques.
• Defined benefit and contribution plans as well as group insurance.

Responsibilities

• Validates, edits, and processes payroll runs; assists payroll manager.
• Responds to payroll-related inquiries in a timely manner.
• Generates and distributes payroll reports for internal/external partners.
• Updates tax information based on employee exemption status.
• Verifies wage garnishments and responds to requests.
• Supports course payments and retirement report submissions.
• Prepares payroll-related journal entries and reconciles GL accounts.
• Processes benefit adjustments and deductions; coordinates with A/P for invoices.
• Liaises with ACC to ensure timely benefits processing.
• Supports month-end and fiscal year-end close and audits.
