Job summary

Seattle Colleges District is seeking a Payroll and Benefits Partner to manage complex payroll and benefits operations. This full-time, on-site role requires hybrid work and offers a path for professional growth within HR.

The position reports to the Payroll Manager and supports compliance and data accuracy across multiple campuses. The ideal candidate has extensive payroll experience, benefits administration expertise, and strong Excel skills, with a proven ability to maintain confidential

Qualifications

  • Four or more years of office experience including at least six months of experience in a human resource or related setting, OR, Equivalent education/experience.
  • Two or more year's experience with payroll processing, including managing end-to-end payroll and cycles.
  • Experience administering employee benefits (health, dental, vision, retirement plans, leave programs).
  • Experience using HRIS or similar enterprise systems for data entry, reporting, and record maintenance; experience with payroll systems and benefits administration tools.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including data analysis, reporting, and use of formulas (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP).
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local wage laws (e.g., FLSA, tax withholding rules).
  • Experience ensuring payroll accuracy and compliance with audits and reporting requirements.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as team/project leader in the Payroll department; primary responsibility for all data entry in the HRIS system.
  • Responds to inquiries and provides information about Payroll and Benefits and HR rules, policies, regulations or procedures within functional area(s).
  • Leads response to complex department email and service tickets.
  • Conducts surveys of other employers' practices and participates in revisions to HR programs.
  • Identifies and recommends training topics and resources; develops and provides trainings.
  • Assists HR staff in administering HR functions such as employment examinations, salary surveys, benefits enrollment and temporary appointments.
  • Analyzes data and prepares reports; enters and maintains HR information systems; verifies accuracy of records.
  • Compiles data and prepares reports, statistics and summaries; prepares correspondence and spreadsheets.
  • Analyzes, interprets, explains, and applies Payroll and Benefits and HR rules.
  • Reviews and ensures accuracy of payroll documents such as leave and salary records and benefits enrollment forms.
  • May support responses to unemployment, workers' comp and/or group insurance claims.
  • May conduct job analyses and participate in recruitment activities.
  • May direct the work of others.
