Job summary

Staff Accountant, Payroll Focus (Nonprofit) in East Harlem, NY is seeking an experienced professional to own payroll accounting, allocating payroll across grants, programs and funding sources. You will process payroll journal entries, reconcile payroll liabilities, and support month-end close and audits.

You will collaborate with HR, payroll and the Director of Finance to ensure accurate grants reporting and compliance, bringing 3+ years of payroll-focused accounting in a nonprofit setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s in Accounting or Finance required
• 3+ years of accounting experience with a strong payroll focus, nonprofit preferred
• Hands-on payroll allocation and payroll reconciliation experience

Responsibilities

• Process and reconcile payroll journal entries each pay cycle.
• Allocate payroll costs to the correct grants, programs and cost centers.
• Reconcile payroll liabilities, benefits and tax accounts to the general ledger.
• Provide payroll data for monthly grant claims and month-end close.
• Prepare payroll-related audit schedules and documentation.
• Work with HR, payroll and the Director of Finance to resolve discrepancies.
