Job summary

Superior Construction is seeking a Payroll Accountant to handle payroll reviews and labor burden analysis across geographic and operational lines. The role supports the accounting and FP&A close process and provides data for executive decision-making.

Responsibilities include month-end close support, account reconciliations, and reports preparation. Travel optional; standard office setting in Portage, IN.

Qualifications

  • 4-6 years of payroll experience in the construction industry.
  • Union payroll experience preferred.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid driver's license.

Job Description
Summary/Objective

Payroll Accountant position is an entry-level to mid-level business professional who is responsible for preparing financial reviews and analysis of labor and the associated labor burden areas by geographic and operational business lines.

They will prepare products intended to support executive-level decision-making on labor and burden. They will support the accounting and FP&A department with required financial and accounting close tasks.

Essential Functions

  • Have an understanding of the payroll process, payroll deductions, and payroll liabilities.
  • Understand how to identify labor burden costs.
  • Ability to tie financial statement line-items to general ledger and cost reports.
  • Understanding of accounting debits and credits, cash flow statements, balance sheets, income statements, and footnote disclosures.
  • Assist with the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes
  • Prepare and analyze records and reports
  • Perform account reconciliations
  • Book monthly activity for related entities
  • All other duties as assigned

Work Environment

This job operates in a clerical, office setting. This role routinely involves standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time exempt position. This position sometimes requires long hours and weekend work.

Travel

The role prefers travel (10-20%) to project sites to partake in project audits that include review of the project equipment schedule and its costs. Accommodation is made for virtual attendance.

Required Education and Experience

4-6 years of experience in payroll or payroll-associated tasks in the construction industry.

Preferred Education and Experience

Union payroll experience.

Additional Eligibility Requirements

Must possess or be able to obtain a valid and appropriate state driver's license before employment.
