Tereina is hiring a Software Engineer for the Payment Team in San Francisco to build and operate the core money-movement services from request initiation to settlement. You will work with senior engineers and an architect on Payment Request and Payment Execution, delivering features end-to-end in Java and Spring Boot.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in software engineering, backend systems and APIs.
• Proficiency in Java and Spring Boot, RESTful API design, and relational databases (PostgreSQL or similar).
• Distributed systems knowledge: messaging, retries, idempotency, fault tolerance.
• Experience with AI coding tools to improve engineering speed and quality.
• Strong written and verbal communication for cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate payment services across request intake, validation, routing, and execution.
• Develop adapters for banks and payment processors, including API/webhook connectivity.
• Ensure correctness by design with auditable state machines and idempotent flows.
• Contribute to ledger postings, reconciliation, and fund state transitions.
• Improve production tooling, incident response, and on-call reliability.
• Write clean, tested code and participate in design reviews.
• Collaborate with Product, Operations, and Platform teams, including SAP integrations.
