Job summary

Tabs is hiring a Payments Operations Lead in New York to build and own payments operations as Tabs brings payments in-house. This founding role on a new team reports to the VP of Finance and will shape reconciliation, risk, reserves, fraud, and merchant compliance for ACH-first processing with growing card share.

You will design architecture, set thresholds, and establish a self-service disputes system while partnering with Legal, Engineering, and banking partners.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in payments operations, risk, or dispute operations.
• Experience with merchant risk, reconciliation, and chargebacks.
• Ability to architect scalable payment processes and systems.
• Experience working with payment partners and PSP platforms.

Responsibilities

• Build the function: choose systems, define architecture, hire the team.
• Own the risk register: map cost of chargebacks and merchant failures.
• Set reserve strategy: define tiers and thresholds for reserves.
• Run reconciliation: establish cadence, thresholds, and investigations.
• Set fraud and compliance posture: own AML policies and partner relationships.
• Own disputes and chargebacks: create self-service evidence flow.
• Scale onboarding and migration: enable merchant sign-up and migration.
