Job Description

An Asphalt Paving Machine Operator is a skilled, hourly-rated position performing various tasks on construction projects, including:

• Understanding and executing paving procedures safely while following instructions to meet project standards.
• Daily maintenance such as lubrication, keeping equipment clean, and safety inspections before operation.
• Notifying supervisors of equipment repairs.
• Setting screed sensors, adjusting the screed crown, and strike off.
• Understanding the head of material for the screed.
• Operating equipment in a straight line and at proper paving speeds to match truck delivery.
• Setting up and using automatic grade and slope control.
• Understanding paving methods to prevent segregation.
• Working safely and effectively as part of a team.
• Performing incidental work as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Ability to understand work directions and communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.
• 2-3+ years of industry experience, especially in roads, highways, and bridges, is preferred.

Physical Demands

• Constant physical effort, including standing, bending, and crouching for at least eight hours.
• Frequent use of hands overhead and manual dexterity for handling tools and materials.
• Ability to lift at least 50 pounds regularly and up to 150 with assistance.
• Ability to walk on uneven surfaces and climb on heavy equipment safely.

Work Environment

• Work outdoors in all weather conditions, with exposure to noise, grease, and dust.
