Job summary

Lanesborough Public Library is seeking a Library Assistant to greet patrons, handle circulation tasks, assist with resources and technology, and guide users in person and online.

The role includes shelving, book drops, processing new materials, and daily cleaning, with a friendly, reliable, detail-oriented approach. Massachusetts CORI checks are required, and staff participate in ongoing in-service training.

Qualifications

• Strong organizational skills.
• Willing/able to learn use of current library technology.
• Excellent communication skills via telephone, email, and in-person.
• Ability to help patrons in use of the internet, public computers, and online library resources.
• Ability to interact respectfully with patrons of all ages, backgrounds, and levels of understanding of library services.
• Ability to work independently and without supervision.

Responsibilities

• Greet patrons and perform circulation desk duties (check-in/out, holds, searches).
• Answer phone calls and assist with library resources and technology.
• Help with collection maintenance: shelving, shelf reading, book drops, cleaning.
• Process and prepare new materials for circulation; daily cleaning and disinfecting.
• COMMITMENT to consistent service and ability to work evenings/weekends as needed.
