Job summary

PathGroup is seeking a Patient Services Technician to support the PSC and in-office PST duties. You will perform venipuncture, specimen handling, data entry, and coordinate with patients and staff to ensure accurate processing and timely service.

This role emphasizes professionalism, adherence to safety procedures, and accurate documentation while maintaining patient comfort and confidentiality in a fast-paced clinical setting.

Responsibilities

• Greets customers appropriately. Treat all customers in a courteous manner.
• Ensures all field phlebotomy and PSC specimens are collected accurately and on time.
• Collects specimens according to established procedures. Explains venipuncture and specimen collection to patients; reduces anxiety.
• Disposes of biohazard fluids or tissues in accordance with laws and policies.
• Completes requisitions in PathConnect and/or other PathGroup applications.
• Enters patient, specimen, insurance, or billing information; maintains high accuracy.
• Communicates with clients to confirm handwritten orders and verify test(s) ordered; obtain billing information.
• Researches test/client information using lab computer system.
• Matches requisition forms to tubes; labels, centrifuges, splits, freezes specimens as required.
• Packages specimens for transport; stores samples at required temperatures; maintains specimen integrity.
• Maintains records and logs; assists with monthly statistics.
• Performs basic clerical duties; performs electronic data entry.
• Approves time entries; submits expense and travel logs as directed.
• Demonstrates organizational commitment; adheres to grooming and lab coat policies.
• Maintains appropriate patient flow and professional behavior with clients and coworkers.
• Answers the telephone with company name and proper greeting.
• Performs duties independently and communicates issues to supervisor for resolution.
• Contributes to a positive work climate and required repairs and maintenance.
• Assists with periodic inventory; reports shortages to supervisor.
• Uses PPE and follows lab safety precautions as per manuals.
• Follows industry security practices and regulatory guidelines to protect PHI and data.
