Job summary

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) is seeking a Patient Support Services I to join our Texas clinic team. Under close direction, you will perform standard clerical duties that support clinic patient flow, including registration, scheduling, and insurance interactions.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma, familiarity with medical terms or EHR systems like Epic, and the ability to verify insurance and communicate with patients in English or Spanish.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• 2–3 years of experience in a clinical setting preferred.
• Experience with EHR systems such as Epic is preferred.
• Experience with patient registration, scheduling, check-in/check-out, or patient access functions is preferred.
• Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish) preferred.
• Experience handling cash transactions and co-payments.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients professionally at the beginning and end of visits.
• Request and verify insurance information as needed.
• Scan insurance and patient photo ID into the EMR.
• Update patient demographic information as necessary.
• Call patients to verify rescheduled appointments.
• Request payments and schedule follow-up appointments or testing.

With close direction, the PSS I performs standard clerical responsibilities that impact clinic patient flow, in accordance with established procedures. Responsibilities may include registration, scheduling, collections, and/or insurance authorizations.

Major/Essential Functions

• Greets patients professionally and courteously at the beginning and end of the visit.
• Requests insurance information and updates as necessary.
• Scans insurance and patient picture identification into the EMR.
• Correct patient's demographic information as necessary.
• Call patient to verify rescheduled appointments.
• Request any additional payments and schedule the next follow-up appointment and or testing.

Required Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

• 2-3 years in working in a clinical setting.
