Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health in New Jersey seeks a Patient Services Representative for Barnabas Health Medical Group. You will greet patients, check-in/out, schedule visits, and coordinate with insurance, while maintaining privacy and accuracy.

Day shift, with options 7:00am–3:30pm or 9:30am–6:00pm; Per Diem. Requires a High School Diploma; Associate's/Bachelor's preferred. Travel between satellite offices is expected.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Preferred: Associate's or Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience in medical receptionist or general office work preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and EMR systems.

Responsibilities

  • Welcoming patients and performing check-in/check-out functions with professionalism.
  • Preparing for visits by reviewing schedules and necessary information.
  • Scheduling appointments and coordinating follow-up visits.
  • Answering routine questions in person and over the phone with good service.
  • Carrying out clerical tasks: copying, scanning, faxing, sorting and mail.
  • Creating and maintaining patient health records.

Pay Range: $20.63- $25.71per hour

The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

As a Patient Service Representative (PSR), a typical day might include the following:
  • Welcoming patients and performing patient check-in and check-out functions with professionalism and compassion.
  • Preparing for patient visits by reviewing schedules and ensuring all necessary information is available.
  • Scheduling patient appointments and coordinating follow-up visits as needed.
  • Answering routine questions in person and over the telephone while providing exceptional customer service.
  • Performing clerical responsibilities including copying, scanning, faxing, sorting, and distributing mail.
  • Creating, maintaining, filing, and organizing patient health record information.
  • Coordinating with insurance providers and handling pre-authorizations and certifications as necessary.
  • Protecting patient privacy and contributing to a safe, efficient, and welcoming practice environment.

To be considered for this opportunity, you must have a High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and relevant experience and/or training. Candidates must demonstrate a clear understanding of the importance of patient satisfaction and safety and possess strong oral and written communication skills. Preferred qualifications include an Associate's or Bachelor's degree, previous medical receptionist or general office experience, and knowledge of medical terminology and electronic medical record (EMR) systems. Travel between satellite offices required.
