Job summary

UMass Memorial Health in Massachusetts seeks a unit receptionist to greet patients, direct visitors, answer phones, relay messages, and assist with specimen transport and chart preparation. The role uses the pneumatic tube system, routes orders, and maintains complete patient records.

Requires at least a high school diploma, strong multitasking and communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Qualifications

• Equivalent to high school plus additional specialized training.
• Knowledge of a variety of office procedures, operation of office equipment such as computer.
• Ability to handle multiple priorities and effective communication.

Responsibilities

• Serves as unit receptionist, directs patients, visitors and others. Answers telephone and intercom.
• Transcribes physician orders and enters orders into entry system according to standard procedure.
• Prepares and maintains patient charts and kardexes; assembles medical records and files reports.
• Schedules patients for consults and diagnostic and therapeutic services; ensures transportation to scheduled appointments.
• Maintains census with admissions, transfers and discharges and keeps the unit log up to date.
