Job summary

UPMC is hiring a full-time Patient Services Representative to support the Department of Otolaryngology – Mercy ENT in Pittsburgh. This role handles front-desk duties, patient check-in, and financial interactions, ensuring a smooth patient experience in a fast-paced specialty practice.

The position emphasizes accurate registration, insurance verification, and coordination with clinicians. Prior experience in medical offices and familiarity with Epic or Medipac are preferred qualifications.

Qualifications

• Completion of high school or equivalent is required.
• Experience with personal computer-based applications and general office equipment is preferred.
• Two years of experience in a medical/billing/customer service role is preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
• Prior experience with Medipac, Epic, or other health records systems is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Help patients navigate the healthcare system by providing clear instructions and follow up on unresolved questions.
• Assist with administrative duties such as scanning medical records and faxing.
• Guide patients through self-arrival technology or check-in at the desk depending on preference.
• Schedule or connect patients with resources to schedule ancillary services at checkout.
• Promote the organization’s patient portal and assist with registration when applicable.
• Collect copayments and any other payments at the point of service.
• Register patients in biometric programs and explain benefits.
• Confirm/update patient registration information at checkout and triage phone calls as needed.
• Schedule follow-up appointments within the practice at checkout.
