Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital is seeking a Patient Service Specialist to create exceptional patient experiences from arrival to checkout. You will welcome patients, help with scheduling, register visits, verify insurance and collect co-pays, while coordinating with physicians to ensure a smooth checkout.

The role emphasizes accuracy, empathy and teamwork in a high-volume hospital setting, with Monday–Thursday shifts (7:30am–5pm) and no weekends or holidays.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 2 years of experience in patient registration, scheduling, insurance processing or customer service.
• An associate’s degree with 1 year of experience or a bachelor’s degree also qualifies.
• Proficiency with PC windows applications and basic math for co-pays.

As a Patient Service Specialist, you’ll help create an exceptional experience for patients, families and visitors from arrival through checkout. You’ll welcome and check in patients, collect co-pays, complete visit preparations, assist with kiosk use, and support patients with scheduling, pre-registration and MyChart enrollment. You’ll also partner closely with physicians to ensure a smooth and efficient checkout process. A caregiver in this position works Monday-Thursday, 7:30am – 5pm. No weekends or holidays.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Provide a comprehensive, proactive and “Patients First” experience for patients and visitors.
• Investigate, triage and resolve patient issues using the established HEART model.
• Create a welcome and professional environment, interact with patients and ensure stellar patient experiences.
• Perform patient registration, visit preparation, telephone triage, insurance verification, co-pay collection, patient and record tracking, scheduling, arrival and/or departure desk activities and screening and scheduling of interpreter services.
• Enter and maintain confidential patient information.
• Recruit, enroll and educate patients on MyChart and Appointment Pass.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• High School Diploma or GED and two years of experience in patient registration, appointment scheduling, insurance processing or customer service
• OR an Associate’s Degree and one year of experience
• OR a Bachelor’s Degree
• Working knowledge of PC window applications
• Ability to perform basic math sufficient to process insurance co-pays

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Knowledge of medical terminology
• Type a minimum of 30 words per minute or personal computer keyboard skills
• Epic experience
• Comfortable utilizing various Microsoft Applications

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to ambulate patients for x rays and to dental chair.
• Dexterity sufficient to operate CRT/PC and other office equipment.
• Ability to work while standing the majority of work day.
• Requires frequent data entry, lifting patients, pushing/pulling over 75 pounds, sitting, squatting, standing and walking.
• Must possess manual dexterity to pass instrumentation, hand mix impression material and stone / plaster, use applicator gun to express impression gun, trimming casts as well as operate PC.

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $15.75

Maximum hourly: $21.65
