Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital in Ohio is seeking a Patient Access Representative for the Emergency Department. You will assist patients with registration, insurance eligibility, and co-pay collection, and help with self-screening and scheduling services.

The role supports multiple patient access areas and includes Epic access. A caregiver in this position works evenings from 3:00 p.m. – 11:30 p.m. with rotating weekends and holidays, and requires completing a 3-week EPIC training on-site.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 2 years customer-facing experience, or an Associate/Bachelor’s degree with related experience.
• Knowledge of medical terminology to understand physician orders; or completion of related course within one year.
• Basic PC software skills and ability to use multiple data systems.
• Ability to work confidently and efficiently in an emergency department setting.

Responsibilities

• Register patients and obtain demographics, insurance, medical and financial information.
• Cross-train to staff all areas of patient access (front desk, admitting, ED, cash register).
• Act as a Super User and train new caregivers.
• Provide registration and cash collection access in Epic.

In this role, you will assist patients with everything from registration, insurance eligibility and collecting co-payments to self-screening and scheduling services. This position provides a strong foundation to advance in your career within various departments at the Cleveland Clinic.

A caregiver in this position works evenings from 3:00 p.m. – 11:30 p.m. Including rotating weekends and holidays.

• Please note that if you are selected, you will need to attend a 3-week EPIC training starting on your first day. The training is on-site at Mercy Hospital. You will need to attend all days of this training. Once the training is complete, you will then start work on your assigned schedule/shift. In order to be considered, you will need to acknowledge that you are able to attend the full duration of the training.*

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Perform registration and obtain information about demographics, insurance, medical and financial
• Crosstrain to staff all areas of patient access, such as front desk, admitting office, ED, and cash register
• Function as a Super User and act as a resource for training of new caregivers.
• Provide registration and cash collection access in Epic

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• High school diploma or GED and two years of experience in a customer facing role OR an Associate’s Degree and one year of experience OR a Bachelor’s Degree
• Knowledge of medical terminology sufficient to understand physician orders OR completion of course within one year
• Basic PC software application knowledge and ability to use multiple data systems
• Ability to work confidently and efficiently in an emergency department setting

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
• Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods.
• Ability to work with physical records or operate a computer or other office equipment.
• In some locations, ability to travel throughout the hospital system.
• In some locations ability to move up to 25 lbs.

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $15.75

Maximum hourly: $21.65
