Job summary

Southern Ohio Medical Center is seeking a Scheduler/Registrar to greet patients and manage outpatient testing registration. You will verify insurance, review medical necessity, educate patients, and coordinate with ancillary departments to ensure seamless service.

The role emphasizes accurate data collection and adherence to CMS and Joint Commission requirements. Attention to detail, strong communication, and basic computer skills are essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Three to six months of related work experience preferred.
• Previous registration and scheduling knowledge preferred.
• Computer experience preferred.
• Medical terminology preferred.
• Insurance knowledge preferred.
• Knowledge of CPT/ICD 10 coding preferred.

Responsibilities

• Answer the telephone within three rings and greet patients and determine their needs.
• Collect accurate financial and clinical data to meet registration standards.
• Explain scheduling, preps, registration and testing procedures, insurance guidelines.
• Explain out-of-pocket costs and collections to customers.
• Maintain departmental records and data within deadlines.
• Assist in training employees.
• Verify Medical Necessity for Medicare patients.
• Complete CMS/Joint Commission requirements as directed.
• Verify a valid physician order and contact physician offices when needed.
• Complete Medicare Secondary Payer Questionnaire for Medicare patients.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
