Job summary

Summa Health is seeking a Patient Access Liaison II for the ER/L&D, working full-time with 5:30pm-5:30am shifts (36 hrs/week) and weekend/holiday rotation. The role interviews patients, guides them through registration, insurance policies and healthcare benefits, and collects payments while delivering friendly service.

Responsibilities include insurance eligibility discovery, patient estimates, co-pay collection, and referrals to financial advocates when appropriate.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Post high school coursework in healthcare, accounting, business, public relations or related field preferred.
  • One year experience in customer service or general office support preferred.
  • Experience in Registration, Insurance Verification/Pre-Certification, Financial counseling, Patient Accounts a plus.
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced and complex clinical environment.
  • Knowledge of keyboard with high accuracy and Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Demonstrates communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills to interact with patients, families, and clinical co-workers in crisis or trauma situations.
  • Possesses problem solving skills and ability to recommend solutions.
  • Ability to document registration information in designated computer software applications in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Ability to work well within a team environment by offering and accepting honest and constructive feedback, supporting team goals, encouraging and mentoring fellow team members.
  • Ability to be highly motivated, work independently, make decisions, and work in a fast paced stressful environment.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of all departmental downtime applications and processes.
  • Population Specific Competency: Ability to effectively interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity.

Salary: $18.31/hr - $21.97/hr

Summary:
Interviews patients in person, at their workstation, or at the bedside to obtain all necessary account information in a fast-paced and complex clinical environment. Communicates effectively with patients and their families and navigate them through the registration process, insurance policies and healthcare benefits. Ensures patient brochures/registration documents are presented, explained, and completed accurately. Utilizes appropriate resources and applications to accurately assign insurance plans, performs insurance eligibility and discovery activities, generate patient estimates, collect patient co-payments, co-insurances and deductibles, identify patients without insurance, provide financial assistance information and make referrals to patient financial advocates when appropriate. Provides a high level of customer service and professional presence to present a positive impression of Summa Health.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Formal Education Required:
    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Post high school level coursework in healthcare, accounting, business, public relations or related field preferred.
  • Experience and Training Required:
    • One (1) year experience performing customer service or general office support experience in any industry preferred.
    • Experience in Registration, Insurance Verification/Pre-Certification, Financial counseling, Patient Accounts a plus
  • Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications:
    • Ability to function in a fast-paced and complex clinical environment.
    • Knowledge of keyboard with high accuracy and Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Outlook).

  • Level of Physical Demands:
    • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods up to 12 hours.
    • Ability to perform bedside registration activities with a workstation on wheels.
    • Work every other weekend and holiday.
    • May be mandated for additional overtime shifts to meet operational demands of the department.
    • Ability to adjust work hours to meet operational demands as required.
    • Reliable Transportation required.
    • Ability to push a wheelchair/patient and ambulate to other departments/units within the Facility.
