Job summary

Shirley Ryan AbilityLab seeks a Food Service Worker to maintain safe, accurate patient meal service and high sanitation standards across cafeteria and patient areas. You will assemble patient trays, assist with cafeteria service, and ensure proper cash handling and customer care in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
• Approximately one to three months on-the-job experience in order to become familiar with basic food preparation techniques and department procedures.
• Interpersonal skills necessary to courteously greet patients and staff.
• Basic analytical skills to perform simple math for cash handling and orders.
• Capacity to concentrate and pay close attention to detail in fast-paced settings.

Responsibilities

• Provide timely, efficient and accurate patient tray line setup and patient meal assembly.
• Deliver and retrieve patient meals to and from nursing units in a safe and expedient manner.
• Maintain sanitation and cleanliness of service ware, pots, pans, equipment and work areas; operate dish machine as needed.
• Prepare simple items (toast, salads, desserts) according to directions and quantities.
• Operate cash register accurately with correct cash handling and make change as needed.
• Stock cafeteria with food and non-food items and assist in daily meals selections for patients.
