Job summary

Baylor Scott & White Health seeks a Financial Counselor to perform financial clearance tasks, verify insurance, and provide price estimates. You will resolve disputed billing issues and support financial assistance policies and facility collections, while handling special projects.

The role requires empathy, strong communication, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a hospital setting, with focus on patient-centered service.

Qualifications

• 3 years healthcare experience or education equivalency.
• EMR experience strongly preferred.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
• Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
• Excellent listening, interpersonal and communication skills; professional telephone etiquette.
• High empathy and patient/customer service focus, even in stressful situations.
• Ability to manage multiple, changing priorities in an organized manner.
• Proficiency in data entry, numeric tasks and basic computer skills (MS Office, Excel).

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with facility leadership to ensure patients are financially cleared and screened.
• Conduct patient interviews to collect demographic and financial data for registration, insurance verification, and billing.
• Review and update patient demographic information for accounts and future service dates.
• Apply financial clearance policies including financial assistance and payer rules.
• Obtain guarantor financial information for financial assistance or referrals to public programs.
• Provide estimates of procedures, calculate payment requirements, and negotiate pre-service payments.
• Establish and monitor payment arrangements for future and past services.
• Coordinate pre-authorization and pre-payments with physicians and patient to meet service dates.
• Review explanations of benefits to help patients understand claims processing or denials.
