Job summary

Guthrie is seeking a Financial Counselor to guide patients through the financial aspects of care and ensure reimbursement pathways are explored. You will help patients understand their bills, gather necessary documentation, and determine eligibility for charity care and other assistance.

You will establish payment plans, communicate clearly with patients, families, and insurers, and ensure compliance with privacy regulations.

Qualifications

• Customer service experience in a busy healthcare setting.
• Ability to explain fees, insurance coverage, and patient financial responsibility.
• Knowledge of charity care policies and eligibility.
• Proficiency with office equipment and HIPAA compliance.
• Strong communication and empathy.

Responsibilities

• Register patients and manage requests and referrals using appropriate systems.
• Verify insurance coverage, eligibility, and authorizations prior to services.
• Determine patient payment responsibility and discuss options (payment plans, financial assistance).
• Coordinate charity care applications and documentation for eligibility and approval.
• Establish and update charity care and payment arrangements; maintain confidential records.
