Job summary

Brown University Health seeks an advocate to resolve patient financial responsibilities and guide families through available resources. You will coordinate referrals, verify coverage, and secure pre-authorizations for services.

Responsibilities include negotiating payment plans, assisting with public assistance applications, and collaborating with care teams to resolve denials and ensure financial clearance.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of third-party coverage, prior authorization, referrals and related processes.
• Familiarity with state and federal resources for needy/disabled and documentation for public assistance appeals.
• Strong interpersonal skills to communicate with patients, families, and payers.
• Ability to operate a computer and maintain related records/reports.
• Solid medical terminology knowledge including CPT and ICD.

Responsibilities

• Advocate for patients/families to resolve outstanding accounts.
• Negotiate payment plans and advise on available resources.
• Interview patients regarding financial/dependency status to promote eligibility for assistance.
• Verify insurance coverage and obtain pre-authorizations as needed.
• Collaborate with clinicians to obtain prior authorization for services denied by insurance.
• Assist with documentation for public assistance and appeals.
• Support billing issues and denials resolution with staff.
