Job summary

Duke Eye Center Mebane seeks a Financial Care Counselor to handle patient financial and registration activities, verify insurance requirements, inform patients of their financial responsibility, and assist with payment arrangements and financial assistance options.

You will support accurate reimbursement, review billing information, communicate clearly with patients and clinical staff, and help resolve questions while upholding departmental policies in a busy hospital setting.

Qualifications

• Two years experience in hospital service access, billing or collections or equivalent.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to work independently.
• Ability to analyze information, manage multiple tasks, and maintain accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Analyze patient insurance coverage and benefits for scheduled services to support accurate billing.
• Obtain prior authorizations, certifications, and other required approvals.
• Admit, register, and pre-register patients with accurate demographic and financial data.
• Review and update billing systems to reflect patient insurance and financial status.
• Explain patient bills, balances, and payment expectations according to guidelines.
• Facilitate payment resources and financial assistance options for uninsured or underinsured patients.
