Job summary

Anchorage Neighborhood Health Center, Inc. is seeking a Patient Services Representative to support patients and staff in a busy clinical setting.

You will handle check-in/out, verify demographics and insurance, collect payments, and process Sliding Fee Scale applications while ensuring accurate documentation and smooth information flow between departments. The role requires accurate data entry, strong customer service, and adherence to HIPAA guidelines.

Qualifications

• One to three years’ experience in a medical office setting.
• One-year experience in the medical billing field, preferred.
• Must possess experience in healthcare administration, financial intake, customer service, and answering telephones.
• Education: High school diploma or the equivalent.
• A ten-key and ability to balance large columns of numbers.
• Fluent reading, writing, and speaking English; bilingual preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs opening and closing procedures.
• Answers and processes multi-line phone calls to extensions or queues regarding patient billing, appointments, and inquiries.
• Schedules, cancels, or reschedules appointments.
• Check in/out patients and verifies demographics, insurance and eligibility, and balances.
• Collects payments based on estimated charge, co-pays, deductibles, and past due balances; manages cash and daily reconciliation.
• Analyzes patient accounts with basic understanding of medical billing standards; understands ICD-10 coding and network considerations.
• Verifies/updates insurance eligibility and reviews co-pays, deductibles, and prior authorizations.
• Prepares forms requiring ICD-10 codes (New Patient, Sliding Fee, VOD, QDC).
• Communicates effectively with staff and patients; completes various reports.
• Provides back-up coverage as needed and promotes service excellence.
