Job summary

Akumin in Hillsborough, NC seeks a dedicated Patient Coordinator for our mobile unit to ensure smooth patient flow and accurate records. You will greet patients, perform registrations, verify insurance, and coordinate transportation, while ensuring HIPAA compliance and high-quality service across multiple sites.

This full-time role offers flexible scheduling and opportunities to work with clinical staff to improve the patient experience and care outcomes.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent experience required.
• CPR Certification must be obtained prior to hire.
• Valid state driver’s license may be required.
• Ability to work at several locations.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Organizational and multi-tasking skills.
• Basic knowledge of computer applications and programs.
• Local travel may be required to support multiple sites.
• COVID-19 vaccination may be a condition of employment.
• Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Greets and assists patients, customers and visitors in person and over the phone.
• Performs patient registration in various systems.
• Answers all phone calls in a professional and courteous manner.
• May collect monies for time-of-service patient responsibility.
• May be responsible for verifying insurance coverage and obtain prior authorization.
• Patient Assistance: May perform preliminary screening of patients prior to procedures.
• May transport patient to/from the exam room.
• May assist in patient transfer on/off the exam table.
• May transport patient to/from the exam room.
• May provide the patient with preliminary and post-procedure instructions.
• Work Area & Supply Preparation: In the mobile setting, may assist in preparing the unit for transport.
• Will maintain a clean and organized work area.
• May order supplies and ensure the work area is properly stocked.
• Documentation: Will ensure accuracy of patient records.
• May schedule patient appointments and obtain insurance verification and/or authorization.
• May prepare medical records for physicians, patients and customers.
• Ensures accurate documentation of patient visits in various electronic systems and on written documents.
• May assist the clinical staff with documentation and image delivery to the patient, physician, or contracted customer.
• Performs all duties within HIPAA regulations.
