Job summary

Akumin is seeking a Patient Coordinator for a mobile unit in Hillsborough, NC. This full-time role supports patient registration, scheduling, and insurance verification in a fast-paced healthcare setting.

The coordinator will greet patients, assist with registrations, manage documentation, and ensure accurate records while providing exceptional customer service and HIPAA-compliant care. CPR is required before hire for mobile units, with travel to multiple sites as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent experience required.
• CPR Certification must be obtained prior to hire for Mobile Radiology and Oncology.
• CPR Certification is a plus for Fixed Radiology.
• Valid state driver’s license may be required.
• Ability to work at several locations.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Organizational and multi-tasking skills.
• Basic knowledge of computer applications.
• Local travel may be required.
• COVID-19 vaccination may be a condition of employment.
• Background check and drug screen required.
• Six months of customer service experience preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology a plus.
• Bilingual in Spanish a plus.

Responsibilities

• Greets and assists patients, customers and visitors in person and over the phone.
• Perform patient registration in various systems.
• Answers all calls in a professional and courteous manner.
• May collect monies for time‑of‑service patient responsibility.
• Verify insurance coverage and obtain prior authorization.
• Screen patients prior to procedures and collect medical history as needed.
• Transport patients to/from exam room and assist in transfers.
• Provide preliminary and post-procedure instructions.
• Prepare and organize medical records and documentation.
• Maintain clean and organized work area; stock supplies.
• Schedule patient appointments and verify insurance.
• Assist with documentation and image delivery as needed.
• Ensure HIPAA compliance and privacy of patient information.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

We are currently hiring for a Patient Coordinator at our mobile unit in Hillsborough, NC. This will be a full time position.

The Patient Coordinator is responsible for performing a variety of customer service and patient care tasks to ensure a positive patient experience. Ensures documentation and patient records are prepared and organized. Ensures patients have a clear understanding of what to expect during and after their appointment.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

• Greets and assists patients, customers and visitors in person and over the phone.
• Will perform patient registration in various systems.
• Answers all phone calls in a professional and courteous manner.
• May collect monies for time-of-service patient responsibility.
• May be responsible for verifying insurance coverage and obtain prior authorization.
• Patient Assistance: May perform preliminary screening of patients prior to procedures, which may include medical history.
• May transport patient to/from the exam room.
• May assist in patient transfer on/off the exam table.
• May transport patient to/from the exam room.
• May provide the patient with preliminary and post-procedure instructions.
• Work Area & Supply Preparation In the mobile setting, may assist in preparing the unit for transport.
• Will maintain a clean and organized work area.
• May order supplies and ensure the work area is properly stocked.
• Documentation Will ensure accuracy of patient records.
• May schedule patient appointments and obtain insurance verification and/or authorization.
• May prepare medical records for physicians, patients and customers.
• Ensures accurate documentation of patient visits in various electronic systems and on written documents.
• May assist the clinical staff with documentation and image delivery to the patient, physician, or contracted customer.
• Performs all duties within HIPAA regulations.
• Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent experience required.
• For Mobile Radiology and Oncology, CPR Certification must be obtained prior to hire.
• For Fixed Radiology, CPR Certification is a plus.
• As applicable, valid state driver's license required.
• Ability to work at several locations required.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Organizational and multi-tasking skills.
• Basic knowledge of computer applications and programs.
• Local travel may be required to support multiple sites.
• The COVID-19 vaccination is/may be a condition of employment.
• All candidates who accept an offer for employment will be required to successfully complete a pre-employment background check and drug screen as a condition of employment.
• Preferred Six months customer service or related experience and/or training.
• Knowledge of medical terminology is a plus.
• Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
