Job summary

Akumin is seeking a Patient Coordinator to perform a variety of customer service and patient care tasks, ensuring a positive patient experience. You will manage registration in systems, answer calls professionally, and help patients understand what to expect during and after appointments, while maintaining HIPAA-compliant records.

Duties include greeting patients, scheduling appointments, insurance verification, and assisting with patient transport and documentation in both mobile and fixed

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent experience required.
• CPR Certification must be obtained prior to hire for Mobile Radiology and Oncology.
• CPR Certification is a plus for Fixed Radiology.
• Valid state driver’s license if applicable.
• Ability to work at several locations.
• COVID-19 vaccination may be a condition of employment.
• Pre-employment background check and drug screen required.

Responsibilities

• Greets and assists patients, customers and visitors in person and over the phone.
• Will perform patient registration in various systems.
• Answers all phone calls in a professional and courteous manner.
• May collect monies for time-of-service patient responsibility.
• May be responsible for verifying insurance coverage and obtain prior authorization.
• May perform preliminary screening of patients prior to procedures.
• May transport patient to/from the exam room.
• May assist in patient transfer on/off the exam table.
• May transport patient to/from the exam room.
• May provide preliminary and post-procedure instructions.
• Will maintain a clean and organized work area.
• May order supplies and ensure the work area is properly stocked.
• Will ensure accuracy of patient records.
• May schedule patient appointments and obtain insurance verification and/or authorization.
• May prepare medical records for physicians, patients and customers.
• Ensures accurate documentation of patient visits in electronic systems and on written documents.
• May assist the clinical staff with documentation and image delivery to the patient, physician, or contracted customer.
• Performs all duties within HIPAA regulations.
• Other duties as assigned.
