Job summary

Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals, Inc. is seeking a Patient Advocate to guide patients through their hospital journey with dignity and respect.

The role emphasizes patients’ rights, proactive communication, and coordination with staff to create a positive, individualized healthcare experience. The advocate will document interactions, ensure compliance with HIPAA and CMS guidelines, and assist in resolving complaints.

Qualifications

• Education: Associate’s Degree with three years of experience in a service-oriented organization, preferably healthcare.
• Certificate of Patient Advocacy preferred.

Responsibilities

• Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
• Investigate and manage complaints by patients, families, visitors, staff, and other healthcare consumers toward resolution.
• Comply with HIPAA, CMS guidelines, and patients’ rights laws.
• Intervene in crises and negotiate resolutions between conflicted parties.
• Proactively round on patients and families while in the hospital.
• Work with nurse manager, physicians, nursing staff and others to resolve complaints.
• Document all complaints and interactions in the electronic feedback system and assist Quality and Safety.
• Other duties as assigned.
