The Patient Coordinator is responsible for performing various customer service and patient care tasks to ensure a positive patient experience. They ensure documentation and patient records are organized and that patients understand what to expect during and after their appointment.
Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
- Greeting and assisting patients, customers, and visitors in person and over the phone.
- Performing patient registration in various systems.
- Answering all phone calls professionally and courteously.
- Collecting payments for time-of-service patient responsibility, if applicable.
- Verifying insurance coverage and obtaining prior authorization, if necessary.
Patient Assistance:
- Performing preliminary screening of patients prior to procedures, including medical history.
- Transporting patients to/from the exam room.
- Assisting in patient transfer on/off the exam table.
- Providing preliminary and post-procedure instructions to patients.
Work Area & Supply Preparation
- Assisting in preparing the mobile unit for transport, if applicable.
- Maintaining a clean and organized work area.
- Ordering supplies and ensuring the work area is properly stocked.
Documentation
- Ensuring accuracy of patient records.
- Scheduling patient appointments and obtaining insurance verification and/or authorization.
- Preparing medical records for physicians, patients, and customers.
- Documenting patient visits accurately in electronic systems and written documents.
- Assisting clinical staff with documentation and image delivery.
- Performing duties within HIPAA regulations.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- CPR Certification required for Mobile Radiology and Oncology; preferred for Fixed Radiology.
- Valid state driver's license required, as applicable.
- Ability to work at multiple locations.
- Strong customer service, organizational, and multi-tasking skills.
- Basic computer skills.
- Local travel may be required.
- COVID-19 vaccination may be a condition of employment.
- Pre-employment background check and drug screen required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Six months of customer service or related experience.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
May involve exposure to outside weather, magnetic fields, radioactive materials, blood/body fluids, infectious diseases, noise, and travel. Activities include sitting, standing, walking, repetitive movements, stooping, kneeling, crawling, climbing, balancing, and lifting patients.
