Job summary

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, VA is hiring a Patient Care Technician for the Short Stay unit. This is a Part-Time, Night Shift (12-hour) role with 24 hours per week and rotating weekends.

The PCT will provide patient care, monitor vital signs, assist with daily living activities, and perform phlebotomy, EKG testing, and specimen collection under RN supervision. AHA BLS is required within 90 days of hire.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or equivalent required.
• Must meet one of the certifica­tion programs (Sentara Care Partner, CNA, NCMA, NCPCT, Navy Hospital Corps School, EMR/EMS/EMT/AEMT/Paramedic).
• Current student in clinical program with RN/LPN/RT/PT involvement may qualify.
• 1 year health care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care and support activities of daily living.
• Monitor vital signs, mobility, and patient condition; report changes to RN.
• Perform phlebotomy, point-of-care testing, EKGs, and specimen collection.
• Assist with Foley catheter insertion/removal and IV care as directed.

Overview:

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is hiring a Patient Care Technician (PCT) for the Short Stay unit. This is a Part-Time, Night Shift (12-hour shift) position.

Hours: 7PM to 7AM - Two12-hour shifts (24 hours/week), with rotating weekends.

The Patient Care Technician provides patient care, supports independent and dependent activities of daily living, vital signs, mobility and ambulation, phlebotomy, point of care testing, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and foley catheter insertion and removal, and complies with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional RN nurse. Observes patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions and documents in a timely and accurate manner while reporting any change to the nurse or medical staff.

Requirements:

Education:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required) and one of the following is required:
• Sentara Care Partner Certification Program, or
• Successful completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), or
• National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), or
• National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT), or
• Completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School, or
• Emergency Services to include EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic, or
• Current student enrolled in a clinical program (beyond prerequisites) having completed at least one semester of a Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Respiratory Therapist (RT) or Physical Therapist (PT) program, or
• Current work experience within the last three years as a Patient Care Technician (PCT) or Nursing Assistant.

Certifications/Licensure:

• AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire.

Experience:

• One year of health care experience (Preferred).

The base pay range for full-time employment is $18.93 - $27.41 hourly.Additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call pay, overtime, shift premiums, extra-shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
