Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is seeking a Patient Care Technician for Medicine Unit 4 - Progressive Ventilator Support Unit (PVSU). This full-time night-shift role (7:00 pm–7:00 am) involves caring for patients on ventilators, monitoring vitals, assisting with daily living activities, and performing phlebotomy and EKG testing under RN supervision.
Qualifications include a High School Diploma or Equivalent and BLS certification within 90 days of hire.
This is a Full Time, Night Shift (12-hour shift) position.

Department Overview: Medicine Unit 4 - Progressive Ventilator Support Unit (PVSU) is an eight-bed step-down unit, specializing in treatment of patients on mechanical ventilators. Most patients admitted to PVSU come from an Intensive Care Unit (ICU). PVSU focuses on maximizing the rehabilitation while continuing to treat the cause of the illness. This goal is accomplished through intensive physical therapy, respiratory care and mental stimulation.
Patient Care Technician responsibilities include: provides patient care, supports independent and dependent activities of daily living, vital signs, mobility and ambulation, phlebotomy, point of care testing, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and foley catheter insertion and removal, and complies with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional RN nurse. Observes patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions and documents in a timely and accurate manner while reporting any change to the nurse or medical staff.
