Job summary

Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital is hiring a Patient Care Technician for the 2 South Oncology unit in Virginia Beach, VA. This full-time day shift (7am–7pm) role involves assisting nurses, observing patients, and supporting admissions and discharges on a 26-bed oncology unit.

Qualifications include a High School Diploma or equivalent and BLS within 90 days. Prior healthcare experience is preferred; numerous CNA/NCP/EMT credentials are recognized.

Sentara is currently hiring a Patient Care Technician to work at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital on the Oncology Unit.

Hours/Shift

Full-time, dayshift. 7am to 7pm

Department/Position Overview

2 South Oncology at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital is a 26-bed unit that takes pride in providing exceptional, quality care. Our unit works with all cancers, specializing in leukemia and lymphoma treatment, radiation, gynecologic cancers, hematologic disorders, end of life patients. Join our work family on the FIGHT against cancer.

Patient Care Technicians are unlicensed staff members who are accountable to, and work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse to implement delegated aspects of nursing care. Provide patient care, support the admissions and discharge process, and comply with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional nurse. Observe patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions and report any change to the nurse.

Education

High School Diploma or Equivalent

Certification/Licensure

American Health Associate BLS Certification required within 90 days of hire.

• Sentara Care Partner Certification Program
• Successful completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
• National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA)
• National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT)
• Completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School
• Emergency Services to include EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic
• Current student enrolled in a clinical program (beyond prerequisites) having completed at least one semester of RN, LPN, RT or PT
• Current work experience within last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant

Experience
