Job Summary

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) II performs patient care activities, including but not limited to identifying and responding to abnormal findings, appropriately escalating changes in the patient’s condition to the nurse, and activities of daily living (ADL’s). The PCT II provides assistance with patient elimination, hygiene, comfort, safety, nutrition, and progress activity and practices patient and family centered care. This role typically reports to the Unit Manager.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: None

Licenses/Certifications: Certified in Basic Life Support issued by (AHA) American Heart Association within 90 days of employment.

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:

• One (1) year of prior patient care experience (e.g., Certified Nursing Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, or Patient Care Technician) or similar role, preferably in an acute care setting, is required.
• Proficiency in all Core Competencies of the PCT I and II position as noted in Memorial Hermann’s PCT Competency Based Tool, validated by Memorial Hermann Clinical Education no later than the end of orientation.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Provide direct patient care for assigned patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse, including vital signs, condition monitoring, hygiene, toileting, mobility, nutrition, bathing, charting, and other activities of daily living as needed.
• Ensure timely and accurate documentation of patient information; report any unusual findings to the nurse.
• Assist in maintaining a safe and clean environment.
• Follow safety protocols, participate in safety programs, and adhere to all policies and procedures.
• Obtain and prepare laboratory specimens within role scope.
• Support the orientation of new employees as appropriate.
• Ensure safe care for patients, staff, and visitors, adhering to policies, procedures, and standards within budget and productivity goals.
• Engage in professional growth through mandatory and continuing education and skills competency.
• Demonstrate commitment to compassionate, personalized care, modeling Memorial Hermann’s service standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
