Job Summary

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) II performs patient care activities, including identifying and responding to abnormal findings, escalating changes in the patient’s condition to the nurse, and assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs). The PCT II provides support with patient elimination, hygiene, comfort, safety, nutrition, and activity, practicing patient and family-centered care. This role typically reports to the Unit Manager.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: None

Licenses/Certifications: Certified in Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association within 90 days of employment.

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:

• At least one (1) year of prior patient care experience (e.g., Certified Nursing Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, or Patient Care Technician) or similar role, preferably in an acute care setting. Required.
• Proficiency in all Core Competencies of the PCT I and II positions as noted in Memorial Hermann’s PCT Competency Based Tool, validated by Memorial Hermann Clinical Education no later than the end of orientation.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Provide direct patient care under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
• Assist with vital signs, visual monitoring, hygiene, toileting, mobility, nutrition, bathing, charting, and other activities of daily living as needed.
• Ensure timely and accurate documentation; report any unusual findings to the nurse.
• Maintain a safe and clean environment.
• Follow safety practices and organizational safety programs; adhere to all policies and procedures.
• Obtain and prepare laboratory specimens within the scope of role.
• Assist in orienting new employees as appropriate.
• Ensure safe care for patients, staff, and visitors, managing resources efficiently.
• Support professional growth through mandatory and continuing education and skills competency.
• Demonstrate commitment to compassionate, personalized care, aligning with Memorial Hermann’s service standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
