Job Summary

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) II performs patient care activities, including but not limited to identifying and responding to abnormal findings, escalating changes in the patient’s condition to the nurse, and activities of daily living (ADL’s). The PCT II provides assistance with patient elimination, hygiene, comfort, safety, nutrition, and progress activity, practicing patient and family-centered care. This role typically reports to the Unit Manager.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: None

Licenses/Certifications: Certified in Basic Life Support issued by (AHA) American Heart Association within 90 days of employment.

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:

• One (1) year of prior patient care experience (e.g., Certified Nursing Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, or Patient Care Technician) or similar role, preferably in an acute care setting, is required.
• Proficiency in all Core Competencies of the PCT I and II position as noted in Memorial Hermann’s PCT Competency Based Tool and validated by Memorial Hermann Clinical Education no later than the end of orientation.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Provides direct patient care for assigned patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
• Includes vital signs measurement, visual monitoring of patient condition, hygiene, toileting, mobility, nutrition support, bathing, charting, and other activities of daily living as needed.
• Ensures timely and accurate documentation and reports any unusual changes or findings to the nurse.
• Maintains a safe and clean working environment, demonstrating safe work practices and following safety rules.
• Obtains and prepares laboratory specimens as prescribed within the scope of the role.
• Helps orient new employees as appropriate.
• Ensures safe care for patients, staff, and visitors, adhering to policies, procedures, and standards within budget and time constraints.
• Supports professional growth through mandatory/continuing education and skills competency.
• Creates compassionate and personalized experiences, modeling Memorial Hermann’s service standards.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
