Job Summary

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) II performs patient care activities, including identifying and responding to abnormal findings, escalating changes in the patient’s condition appropriately, and assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs). The PCT II provides support with patient elimination, hygiene, comfort, safety, nutrition, and activity, practicing patient and family-centered care. This role typically reports to the Unit Manager.

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: None required
• Licenses/Certifications: Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) within 90 days of employment.
• Experience/Knowledge/Skills: One (1) year of prior patient care experience (e.g., CNA, EMT, PCT) or similar role, preferably in an acute care setting. Proficiency in all Core Competencies of the PCT I and II positions as noted in Memorial Hermann’s PCT Competency Based Tool, validated by Memorial Hermann Clinical Education by the end of orientation.

Principal Accountabilities

• Provide direct patient care under the supervision of a licensed nurse, including vital signs, monitoring, hygiene, toileting, mobility, nutrition, bathing, and other ADLs.
• Document information accurately and report any unusual findings to the nurse promptly.
• Maintain a safe and clean working environment, demonstrating safe work practices and following safety rules.
• Obtain and prepare laboratory specimens as prescribed within the scope of the role.
• Assist in orienting new employees as appropriate.
• Ensure safe care for patients, staff, and visitors, adhering to all policies and procedures while managing time, supplies, and productivity.
• Support professional growth through mandatory and continuing education, and contribute to departmental goals.
• Create compassionate and personalized experiences, modeling Memorial Hermann’s service standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
