Summary of Job Duties: This position works under supervision to assist the physician with patient care and procedures. The Patient Care Technician will assist the patient to the room, obtain the patients’ height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, respirations, temperature, gather chief complaint and any necessary history, enter information obtained into the electronic medical record (EMR), performs EKGS, sterilize used instruments and clean and stock exam rooms. This position must be able to perform all Patient Care Technician II duties and other duties to support patient care activities as needed.
Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School/GED PLUS successful completion of PCT course within 3 months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification as a nursing assistant or military corpsman

  • CPR Certification (BCLS) within 3 months of employment

  • Computer experience desired

  • Ability to communicate with staff, patients/families following Guest CARE guidelines

  • Ability to follow Oral Instructions, read, and write


Additional Information:

Employees in this role must be fitted for, capable of donning and performing routine tasks in personal protective equipment to include N95 masks, Powered Air Purifying Respirators (PAPR) or Controlled Air Purifying Respirators (CAPR).

Responsibilities:

  • Obtains the patient’s height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respirations, and chief complaint and records the data in the EMR.

  • Assists patients to the laboratory and radiology for diagnostic testing.

  • Collects laboratory specimens as ordered by the physician.

  • Performs EKGs as ordered by physicians.

  • Sets up equipment for testing or treatment that is to be performed by the Licensed Practical Nurse or a Provider.

  • Assist physicians with procedures, i.e. pelvic exams and minor surgical procedures, including but not limited to removal of ingrown toenails, removal of skin lesions, and closure of minor lacerations.

  • Schedule follow-up appointments as ordered by the Provider or per standing orders

  • Schedule referral appointments as ordered by the Provider

  • Enter orders for labs, referrals, and testing as ordered by the Provider

  • Supervises the maintenance and cleaning of medical equipment

  • Cleans, rinses, packages, and utilizes the autoclave to sterilize instruments.

  • Performs extension of benefits for patients with Medicare insurance as needed.

  • Other duties as deemed necessary.

  • Other duties as assigned.
