GENERAL OVERVIEW:

This job provides direct care to patients and assists with non-direct patient care unit coordination. The incumbent is expected to perform basic nursing procedures related to patient care and comfort in stable conditions, and understand patient population needs in the assigned area. They will assist RNs in caring for acutely ill patients, practice medical asepsis, respect patient dignity and privacy, and maintain objectivity during patient care. Adherence to hospital policies, emergency response, maintaining the environment, and effective communication are essential. The incumbent works under supervision of the Registered Nurse, with specific work assignments from the Charge Nurse or Care Team Leader, demonstrating efficient time management. Additionally, they coordinate activities like patient admissions, discharges, and transfers.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provides and documents direct patient care activities such as vital signs, ambulation, specimen collection, I&O, and assisting with treatments. (30%)
2. Participates in quality and patient satisfaction initiatives like bedside shift reports, hourly rounding, safety protocols, and maintaining a clean environment. (30%)
3. Accurately documents patient data and reports changes or concerns to nursing staff. (20%)
4. Participates in unit activities such as supply stocking and equipment cleaning. (20%)
5. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum

• High School Diploma or GED
• Able to attend 2 weeks of training with limited or no experience
• Ability to read, write, follow instructions, perform basic math, and use computers
• CPR certification (American Heart Association)
• Act 34, Act 33, and Act 73 background clearances

Preferred

• Recent acute care experience within last 3 years
• Enrolled in ASN or BSN program, with at least one clinical rotation completed
