GENERAL OVERVIEW:

This position provides direct patient care and assists with non-direct unit coordination. The incumbent performs basic nursing procedures related to patient comfort and care, with knowledge of patient needs in the assigned area. They assist RNs in caring for acutely ill patients, practice medical asepsis, respect patient dignity and privacy, and maintain objectivity. They adhere to hospital policies and respond appropriately during emergencies. Responsibilities also include maintaining the patient environment and documenting care in the electronic medical record. The incumbent works under the supervision of RNs, receiving work assignments from the Charge Nurse or Care Team Leader, and manages time efficiently to complete tasks. Additionally, they coordinate activities such as patient admissions, discharges, and transfers.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provide, document, and perform direct patient care activities including vital signs, ambulation, specimen collection, I&O, and assisting with treatments. (30%)
  2. Participate in quality and patient satisfaction initiatives like bedside shift reports, hourly rounding, and safety protocols. (30%)
  3. Accurately document vital signs, weights, I&O, and report changes or concerns to nursing staff. (20%)
  4. Assist with unit activities such as supply stocking and equipment cleaning. (20%)
  5. Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Able to attend 2 weeks of training
  • Ability to read, write, and follow instructions
  • Basic math skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • CPR certification (American Heart Association)
  • Act 34, 33, and 73 background clearances

Preferred:

  • Recent acute care experience within 3 years
  • Enrollment in ASN or BSN program, with at least one clinical rotation completed
