GENERAL OVERVIEW:

This job provides direct care to patients and assists with non-direct patient care unit coordination. The incumbent is expected to perform basic nursing procedures related to patient care and comfort, understand patient population needs, and assist the RN in caring for acutely ill patients. They must practice medical asepsis, respect patient dignity and privacy, and maintain objectivity. Adherence to hospital policies, emergency response, environment maintenance, effective communication, and documentation are essential. The incumbent works under RN supervision, with specific work assignments from the Charge Nurse or Care Team Leader, demonstrating efficient time management. Additionally, they coordinate activities like patient admissions, discharges, and transfers.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provide and document direct patient care: activities of daily living, vital signs, specimen collection, mobility, and other treatments. (30%)
  2. Participate in quality and safety initiatives: bedside shift reports, hourly rounding, fall prevention, hand hygiene, isolation protocols, and maintaining a clean environment. (30%)
  3. Accurate documentation and reporting: vital signs, weights, I&O, restraints, and condition changes. (20%)
  4. Unit activities: supply stocking, equipment cleaning, and checks. (20%)
  5. Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Limited or no experience; must attend 2 weeks of training
  • Ability to read, write, and follow instructions
  • Basic math skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • CPR certification (American Heart Association)
  • Act 34, Act 33, and Act 73 background clearances

Preferred:

  • Recent acute care experience (within 3 years)
  • Enrollment in ASN or BSN program, with at least one clinical rotation completed
