Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Patient Care Technician in Chicago to assist Registered Nurses in direct patient care and support vital hospital operations. The role involves vitals collection, newborn care, phlebotomy, and routine patient assistance, under RN supervision.

Qualified candidates will have CNA certification or be enrolled in nursing school with clinical rotations, CPR/BLS certification, and a strong health and safety training record. Prior healthcare experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• CNA Certification or currently enrolled in School of Nursing with clinical rotations completed.
• CPR recognition by the American Heart Association (BLS for Healthcare Providers).
• Minimum of 90% correct on annual mandatory Health and Safety Training quizzes.
• High school diploma required; One year of college or nursing education or equivalent experience preferred.
• Previous experience in a health care setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Direct Patient Care: Assists with admission, transfer, and discharge. Takes and records vitals and inputs, including neonates. Performs newborn care and phlebotomy as trained.
• Indirect Patient Care: Maintains a safe, clean environment; supports RN in unit operations; stocks supplies and ensures room readiness.
• Responds to patient call lights promptly and triages needs; assists with pre- and post-operative care as directed.
• Provides comfort measures, assists with feeding and daily activities, and ensures safety and infection control.
