Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Patient Care Technician in Chicago to assist the Registered Nurse with direct and indirect patient care. The role operates on a unit team under RN supervision and supports admissions, vital signs, and ongoing patient needs.

The position emphasizes safety, newborn care, post-operative support, and collaborative care with nursing and medical staff. CNA certification or nursing program enrollment is required, with a strong emphasis on patient-first care.

Qualifications

• Must be CNA certified or enrolled in nursing program.
• CPR recognition by American Heart Association (BLS for Healthcare Providers) required.
• High school diploma required; one year of college nursing education or equivalent preferred.
• Minimum 1 year of healthcare experience preferred.
• Ability to relate to patients, families and medical staff.

Responsibilities

• Assist with admissions, transfers, and discharges.
• Take and record vital signs and measurements.
• Provide direct patient care under RN supervision.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and comfortable patient environment.
• Assist with pre- and post-operative care and newborn care as needed.
• Support newborn feeding and diapering as applicable.
