Job summary

Hackensack Meridian Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician to support a patient population under the supervision of an RN in a hospital setting in New Jersey. Qualifications

• High School diploma, GED, and/or GED equivalent programs.
• Completion of one of the following: CNA, Medical Assistant or Patient Care Technician program or Fundamentals of Nursing program from an accredited school of nursing or HMH PCT Apprenticeship Program or equivalent medical background experience.
• The ability to learn quickly, adapt to changing patient needs, a strong sense of accountability, teamwork, ongoing education, and delivering high-quality patient-focused care.
• Experienced or certified in phlebotomy and checking EKG, vital signs and blood sugar preferred.
• At least one year PCT or CNA hospital experience preferred or eligible for HMH PCT apprenticeship program.
• Certified Nursing Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant or Patient Care Technician who completed a PCT program including Phlebotomy, EKG and nursing assistant course.
• AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification within 60 days of entering position.

Responsibilities

• Welcomes patients and checks for proper identification bracelets.
• Prepares the patient for assessment/admission, physical examination and procedures.
• Obtains clinical data, vitals, and documents findings; notify RN of abnormal results.
• Draws blood and performs venipuncture.
• Performs EKG as directed.
• Provides direct hygiene and comfort care to patients, including bathing and assisting with meals.
• Assists with transportation and ensuring a safe patient environment.
• Adheres to organizational competencies and participates in PI activities.
