Job summary

UPMC Passavant is seeking a Full-Time Patient Care Technician to join the 5 East Annex Flex Unit. This role involves direct patient care under RN supervision, including ADLs, procedures, and therapies, with shifts totaling 36 hours per week on rotating schedules.

Responsibilities include vital signs, telemetry, EKGs, specimen collection, and patient transport while maintaining infection control and safety. Strong communication with patients and families is essential for coordinated care.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under RN direction, including assisting with ADLs, procedures, and therapies
• Perform core PCT responsibilities, including vital signs, point-of-care testing, telemetry application, specimen collection, bladder scans, EKGs, and basic dressings
• Assist with unit and patient needs (e.g., responding to call lights, meal delivery, patient transport, and monitoring)
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment while following infection control and safety protocols
• Monitor patients and report changes in condition or equipment issues promptly
• Document care accurately and complete clerical tasks as needed
• Support unit operations by stocking supplies and assisting with department activities
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team to support coordinated care
• Demonstrate professionalism by building positive relationships, supporting team initiatives, and seeking opportunities for growth and development
• Respond to emergent situations and provide patient supervision or assistance as appropriate
