Responsibilities

• Assists with patient procedures and activities of daily living under RN supervision.
• Assists with physical, respiratory and cardiopulmonary therapies.
• Documents in the medical record according to established procedures; reports changes in patient status to RN.
• Maintains safety policies and participates in unit activities, including responding to call lights and delivering meals.
• Communicates learning needs to the unit director and seeks assistance to prioritize activities.
• Provides instruction to patients and families under the direction of the RN; may apply and monitor patient restraints as per protocol.
• Performs core nursing assistant responsibilities (blood glucose, weights, vital signs, I&O, specimen collections, Foley care) and more advanced tasks as department needs (phlebotomy, 12-lead EKG, etc.).
• Maintains professional relationships with health care team and adheres to hospital policies.
