Job summary

Northwestern Memorial Hospital is seeking a Patient Care Technician to support Registered Nurses in direct and indirect patient care. The role includes phlebotomy, vital signs, newborn care, feeding assistance, and safety monitoring across units.

The position requires CNA certification or current nursing student status with clinical rotations, CPR/BLS, and strong safety training. A high school diploma is required, with college/Nursing education preferred and opportunities for growth within

Qualifications

• CNA Certification or currently enrolled in School of Nursing who has successfully completed basic clinical rotations.
• CPR recognition by the American Heart Association (BLS for Healthcare Providers).
• Minimum of 90% correct on annual mandatory Health and Safety Training quizzes.
• Unit based recognition for Capillary Blood Glucose Monitoring.
• High school diploma required. One year of college or nursing education or equivalent experience preferred.
• Previous experience in a health care setting preferred with a demonstrated ability to relate to patients, family, nursing and medical staff.

Responsibilities

• Direct Patient Care Activities: assists with admission, transfer and discharge; takes and records vitals; measures intake and output; applies cardiac monitor/oximetry; obtains EKG; newborn care and phlebotomy; transports patients; responds to calls and emergencies; prepares procedures; maintains patient safety and comfort.
• Indirect Patient Care: maintains a safe, clean environment; assists RN; collects and inventories patient belongings; completes charges; orders supplies; ensures room readiness; participates in quality improvement and daily QC’s.
