Job summary

UMass Memorial Health in Worcester, MA is hiring a Patient Care Technician I for per diem and mixed shifts. The position pays $15.00 to $26.53 per hour based on a 40-hour week, with signing bonus eligibility and a comprehensive patient-care team environment.

Under licensed supervision, you will support nurses with patient care tasks, monitor vital signs, perform basic procedures, and help ensure patient safety and comfort in a busy hospital setting.

Qualifications

• High school education or GED required.
• BLS certification required within 30 days of employment.
• Experience as Patient Care Technician I or 6 months direct patient care experience.
• English proficiency and basic computer skills required.
• Medical terminology knowledge helpful; ability to stay calm under stress.

Responsibilities

• Provide timely communication to the RN regarding patient observations.
• Constant observation of high-risk patients as assigned.
• Assist in creating a safe environment and de-escalate when needed.
• Assist patients with daily living activities (hygiene, ambulation, meals).
• Help move, lift, position, and transport patients safely.
• Perform patient safety checks and follow restraints policy as directed.
• Take and record vital signs and measurements.
• Perform EKGs, POC tests, and bladder scanning; prepare specimens for lab.
• Phlebotomy in certain locations.
• Assist with treatments and position patients; prepare equipment.
• Monitor intake and tube feeding per directions; document outputs.
• Provide respectful, culturally appropriate communication.
• Replenish supplies; seek help when needed.
