Job summary

UMass Memorial Health in Worcester, MA seeks a Patient Care Technician II to provide direct patient care and support to licensed clinicians. You will perform essential monitoring, vital signs, EKGs, and basic lab prep while ensuring patient safety and comfort.

The role requires BLS certification within 30 days, a high school diploma or GED, and strong English communication. You will work a day shift in a fast-paced hospital setting with established standards of respect and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a high school education or GED.
• Basic Life Support certification within 30 days as a condition of employment.
• Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
• Basic computer skills.
• Basic Medical Terminology knowledge.
• Must be able to remain calm when under stress or in emergency situations.

Responsibilities

• Provide clear, timely communication to the RN regarding patient observations and changes.
• Maintain constant observation of high-risk patients as assigned.
• Assist in creating and maintaining a safe environment and de-escalation when needed.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living and mobility.
• Support in moving, lifting, and positioning patients with proper safety techniques.
• Perform patient safety checks and follow fall-prevention protocols.
• Take and record vital signs; measure weights and heights.
• Perform EKGs, Point of Care tests, and bladder scanning; prepare specimens for lab transport.
• Assist with treatments and procedures by preparing equipment and supplies and providing emotional support.
• Observe and document intake and output; manage tube feeding and ostomy care as directed.
• Demonstrate respectful communication with patients, staff, and visitors.
• Replenish supplies and equipment as needed.
