Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Patient Care Tech in Illinois to support RN-led patient care. You will perform basic nursing activities, assist with daily living, monitor vitals, and communicate with the care team in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Required CNA or nursing student with clinical, and BLS certification. Phlebotomy experience is a plus; benefits include tuition reimbursement and professional development opportunities.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Certified Nursing Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, or nursing student with one semester of clinical completed.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS).
• Phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Graduate of an accredited Nursing Assistant program or Graduation of Phlebotomy course.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic nursing care activities as delegated and supervised by an RN, including monitoring vital signs, taking blood glucose measurements, and recording intake and output.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living including bathing, grooming and eating.
• Reports abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
• Keeps patient rooms clean and orderly.
• Demonstrates flexibility, organization, and multi-tasking under stress.
• Prioritizes unit work and serves as liaison between patient care units and other departments.
• Answers telephone, intercom and call lights politely and relays information appropriately.
• Manages overall unit workflow with charge RN or assistant manager as needed.
• Performs pre-census and validates daily admission, discharge and census lists as needed.
