Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Patient Care Tech to support nursing staff under an RN, performing basic patient care tasks and vital signs.

Responsibilities include assisting with ADLs, monitoring patients, reporting changes, and helping maintain clean, organized rooms. Required certifications include CNA/CMA/EMT or nursing student with clinicals; BLS is required. Phlebotomy experience preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• CNA, CMA, EMT, or nursing student with one semester of clinical completed required.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Phlebotomy experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic nursing care activities delegated by an RN, including monitoring vital signs, taking blood glucose measurements, and recording intake and output.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living (bathing, grooming, eating).
• Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
• Keep patient rooms clean and orderly.
• Demonstrate flexibility, organization, and multi-tasking under stress.
• Prioritize and complete unit work as needs change through critical thinking.
• Serve as liaison between patient care units and other departments.
• Answer telephone, intercom and call lights professionally and communicate with staff/family/patient.
• Manage unit workflow in coordination with the charge RN or assistant manager as needed.
• Perform pre-census and validate daily admission, discharge and census lists as needed.
